January 2023 Charity Donation

Our £2,000 charity donation this month went to the 9th Itchen South (Woolston) Sea Scout Group, as chosen by Senior Consultant and Manager, Milton Chapman.

The 9th Itchen South (Woolston) Sea Scout Group is part of the larger Itchen South District Scouts network, which operates scouting groups in Woolston, Weston, Sholing, Bursledon, Butlocks Heath, Netley, and Hamble.

Scouts is a worldwide movement that believes in bringing people together, regardless of gender, race, or background, and creating stronger communities. The movement prepares young people with the skills they need for life, including skills and knowledge needed for school, university, job interviews, and more.

The 9th Itchen South (Woolston) Sea Scout Group works to inspire positive futures for young people. Alongside mastering new skills, the group supports its members in making new friends, having fun and enjoying some exciting adventures. The group are dedicated to the growth of young people and encourage them to take on a variety of challenges, including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and camping – building their teamworking and leadership skills along the way.

Milton chose the 9th Itchen South (Woolston) Sea Scouts to receive our donation this month as he himself was involved with the scouting movement from a young age, eventually progressing to be a scout leader. His son has also been attending this particular group for around eight years and has gained a lot from the group’s teachings.

Milton said: “The work the group does with young people in the area is wonderful and the commitment of those who run the scout group is remarkable. All of the scout leaders are volunteers who are dedicated to imparting life and leadership skills to the young people who attend. They provide opportunities and direction to those who may not ordinarily get the chance to explore and take part in activities locally and away from home.”
