We are honoured that our £2,000 charity donation this month is going to Coventry Haven – a local charity chosen by Senior Consultant, Mandy Kaur.
Coventry Haven was first introduced in 1972 as a women's group and has since grown to become a registered charity run by women, for women. They are a fully accredited member of Women's Aid in Coventry – campaigning nationally against domestic abuse. The charity's aim is to help and support women, and their children, who have been, or are being, subjected to domestic violence. Coventry Haven assist by providing safe housing and support services throughout the entire process of leaving abusive situations. The services are run by female staff and volunteers, who support all women, without judgement and with complete confidentiality.
Domestic abuse is most often perpetrated by a partner, or ex-partner, however, can sometimes also be committed by a family member or carer. There are various diverse types of domestic abuse, not just physical, which can impact on someone’s livelihood. Coventry Haven recognise women face troubling situations alongside domestic abuse, where they may require additional support, including mental health conditions, homelessness, substance misuse and physical health conditions – for this reason, they also work collaboratively with other agencies to ensure women receive all the support they need to live comfortably.
