Tisski Employee Talks Remote Onboarding During Covid-19

Over the last few months, companies around the country – and indeed, around the world – have found themselves having to adjust to the measurements put in place to help control the spread of Coronavirus.

While Tisski offered the flexibility of home working prior to the countrywide lockdown, anyone joining as a new employee would have been welcomed with open arms to our headquarters in Kenilworth for their first few days or weeks, allowing them time to get to know the team and settle into their role. However, in light of current events, this hasn’t been possible for the seven members of the team who have joined since lockdown began in mid-March.

The remote onboarding process

Senior Power Platform Consultant, Adil Aslam, stepped into his role at the beginning of April and the thought of navigating a change in employment at such an unusual time wasn’t the easiest, yet Adil only has good things to say about his onboarding experience.

“The uncertainty around what was going to happen in the world was stressful and the thought of facing a change in job only added to that stress, but Tisski were absolutely brilliant,” Adil said. “I had an email confirming that everything was still okay for me to join on the date agreed, followed by clear information about how I would be set up to work from home and how the onboarding process would work.”

In the days leading up to his start date, Adil received all the equipment he would need to set up his very own work-from-home environment and couldn’t have been happier with his special delivery: “I was sent a laptop, mouse, keyboard, Surface pen and phone. For someone into tech like myself it was like Christmas morning – I had to convince my fiancé that this was all work-related and that I hadn’t gone on another tech-filled spending spree!”

When his first week arrived, Adil was guided through the onboarding process he’d been informed of and introduced to many of his new colleagues over Microsoft Teams.

A warm welcome to Tisski

As a Power Platform Consultant, Adil works closely with clients to create tech solutions that fit their requirements. He would ordinarily spend his working week split between home, the Tisski headquarters and client sites, yet to date has only visited the Tisski office once (for his interview) and hasn’t been able to meet clients in person. However, that hasn’t made him feel any less a part of the Tisski team.

“The welcome I received has was beyond anything I could’ve expected,” Adil said. “I had so many people reaching out to me when I joined that I instantly felt a part of the team. It’s amazing how the company culture comes across so strongly, even though we are all working remotely.

“The board have also been amazing and the weekly updates they provided around Covid-19 gave me a lot of reassurance. Tisski have also gone above and beyond by making a therapist available to all their employees. I can’t quite put into words how happy I am to know that Tisski care so much about their staff, even beyond the working day.”

Life after lockdown

After a successful onboarding, Adil is now in full swing and thoroughly enjoying his new role. As for life after lockdown, he doesn’t imagine it will be too different, given that Tisski have already fostered a flexible work environment.

“When lockdown is further relaxed, I don’t see much changing except the fact that I’ll able to visit clients in person,” Adil explained. “I feel this unavoidable shift to remote working will only encourage a lot of companies to reconsider their work from home policies, too, as a flexible arrangement like Tisski’s benefits both employer and employees.”
